A Celebration of French Language, Culture and Bilingualism!
Next week, Ecole Ardrossan will join the National celebration of Les Rendez-Vous de la Francophonie. Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie translates into "the get together of the Francophones from all over". It is a opportunity for our school community to gather together and celebrate our identity as a bilingual school with students who speak English and French.
Each day is marked by a special activity for students in both French and English classes which highlights aspects of French language and culture. Students will learn about who speaks French in Alberta, what kinds of games Francophone students play at recess, how French words became part of English and vice-versa, and finally, assist in a Franco-Albertan flag raising ceremony during the Habit 5 Assembly on Friday, March 18th in morning.
Grades 4 to 6 French Immersion students will have the opportunity to participate in a karaoke style singing contest called "La Fureur" in periods 4 and 5 on Thursday, March 17 in the gym. For more information and to hear the songs being used in the contest click on this link: La Fureur
This opportunity to learn more about the Francophones in our community and in the world will afford us a wonderful moment to to practice Habit 5: Seek First to Understand and then Be Understood.
Vive le français!
