MONTHLY UPDATE: February 2018
Posted on February 2nd, 2018
February, while the shortest month of the year, is one of the busiest! February embraces Valentine’s Day, Family Day, Habit 4 "Think Win-Win" student led assembly, student-led conferences, Teachers' Convention and Pink Shirt Day. Students and staff will also be practicing their skipping skills as we prepare for the Jump Rope for Heart fundraising event that takes place throughout the day of February 28th in support of the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation. Parents are invited to share skipping skills with the students. Students will also be learning about the benefits of healthy eating, daily exercise and lifestyle choices. Thank you for your continued support of this important life-changing cause.
Although we traditionally celebrate Carnaval this month, Mother Nature is not cooperating. We certainly hoped for snow but not the frigid temperatures. However, Thursday, March 22nd has been selected as the new date for this terrific event. As we are already acknowledging les Rendez-vous de la francophonie the week of March 19 - 22, Carnaval will now be included in this week of memorable French activities.
With the inclement weather continuing to envelope Alberta, it is so important to monitor weather reports and ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the winter conditions. Thank you for ensuring their safety.
February 14th is Win-Win day as well as Valentine's Day. All students will have the opportunity to give a Win-Win sticker to classmates as they catch each other “doing good things”. It is a day when we intentionally celebrate kindness and reaffirm that being helpful with one another benefits everyone.
Make sure to also check out the Mid-Year Review. It is an opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments and successes during the first half of the school year. Please see the attachment and blog post.
Lastly, we are so appreciative of the many supportive comments regarding the now confirmed move to the new school to be effective September 4, 2018. Although there is disappointment, the overwhelming rationale is to ensure safe and complete access to the new building and school grounds for the 2018-19 school year. Details regarding the official Open House are in the works. Please stay tuned!

Tidbits From The LunchBox…
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! The LunchBox is desperately looking for volunteers to join our board. Many members of our board have children in Grade 6 and/or no longer have children in the Elementary School and hold critical positions. We are open to all parents joining us and we are hoping that parents with younger children will step forward and help us maintain our hot lunch program. If you have any questions, please contact email@example.com
Friendly reminder...If the Elk Island Public Transportation cancels buses for any reason (i.e., snow day, icy roads, fog, mornings only etc…) HotLunch service will be cancelled and any perishables will be donated to a charity of our choice. If your child attends class that day, please ensure you provide them with a lunch.
Please be advised that we will continue to accommodate parents who come after the lunch rush to pick up their absent child’s lunch order. As we do not offer any refunds on lunches due to a child’s absence. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to make these arrangements.
The LunchBox Board and kitchen staff would like to thank YOU in advance for your continued support of our great hot lunch program!!!
